Supporting Indigenous students with pathways into education and meaningful careers
The Clontarf Foundation exists to improve the education, discipline, life skills, self-esteem, and employment prospects of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men across Australia. It is one of Australia's most successful Indigenous programs.
Using sport — particularly Australian Rules football — as a hook to attract participants, Clontarf operates academies within schools that provide a structured, supportive environment where young men are mentored, encouraged, and equipped for life beyond school.
In 2014, the Waislitz Foundation committed $1 million to Clontarf to support academy expansion in Victoria and sustain operations nationwide — ensuring more young Indigenous Australians have access to the opportunities they deserve.
Clontarf's success lies in its proven model that meets young men where they are and walks alongside them into adulthood.
Sport — particularly AFL — is used to build trust, connection, and routine. It's the hook that brings young men through the door.
Academy staff mentor students daily — building discipline, resilience, and life skills. Attendance and engagement are core requirements.
Employment pathways supported through 1,000+ employer partners. Alumni networks ensure ongoing support beyond school.
